/An Archive of Places I'll Never Know is a series of digital cards, each focused on a single location on Earth. Every card is assembled from open-source data: coordinates, terrain models, geological age, biome classification, archaeological records and climate projections. Together they build a portrait of a place through its measurable, accessible traces. A portrait holding several timescales at once, a dissection of a space through its past, present and future.
The series sits between archival cataloguing and personal longing. Through digital discovery I am learning all I can about the place but despite this the site being reduced to a string of coordinates and a handful of facts is still a place I’ll never know. The cards are an attempt to get close to somewhere through the information I have access to as the reality of me going to these places is slim to impossible.
